This is an identification sign, not the legend the code specifies. NYC BC 2022 Appendix K 2.7.3.4.1(d) requires access doors to machinery spaces, machine rooms, control spaces and control rooms to be labelled "ELEVATOR EQUIPMENT" in letters not less than 51 mm (2 in.) high.
