Short answer: a New York City residential building carries more required postings than most owners realise, and HPD publishes nearly all of them free, in multiple languages. Below is a working checklist grouped by what each notice is about, with the source in every case being HPD itself.

Detector notices
HPD publishes posting notices for each detector class, updated 30 April 2025:

Local laws that generate postings
Several local laws create their own notice obligations. The ones with HPD published notices in circulation are Local Law 47 of 2015, Local Law 55, Local Law 86, Local Law 102 of 2025, Local Law 153 and Local Law 159. Local Law 159 in particular is published in eleven languages, which is a good signal of how seriously the translation requirement is taken.
The language requirement is the part owners miss
Several of these are not single documents. The rent stabilized tenant notice, Local Law 159, the heat sensors program notice and the stove knob cover notice are each published in a range of languages, and the version you post depends on the languages spoken in your building. Posting only the English copy is a common way to be technically non compliant while believing you are covered.
Where to get them
All of the above are published by the New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development at nyc.gov/hpd, free, as printable PDFs. There is no reason to pay anyone for a copy. If a vendor is selling you an HPD notice, you are paying for paper and a trip to the printer.

This list reflects HPD published notices as gathered on 27 August 2026. Requirements change, and they vary by building class, occupancy and the specific conditions in your building. Confirm your own posting obligations with HPD or your authority having jurisdiction. Nothing here is legal advice.
